2 cops shoot bus robbers in Mandaluyong

MANILA, Philippines - Two suspected robbers were shot by two police officers when they snatched a passenger’s necklace as they were about to get off a bus in Mandaluyong City yesterday afternoon.

Senior Police Officer 1 Alexander Tan and SPO3 Danilo Cosme, both based in Camp Crame, were on their way home when suspect Dennis Nabale, 20, and his still unidentified companion struck at around 5 p.m.

Tan is reportedly detailed to the office of Philippine National Police chief Director General Alan Purisima while Cosme is with the Western Mindanao Directorate for Integrated Police Operations.

Kellen bus driver Joseph Trisa said the suspects boarded the bus near the intersection of EDSA and Ortigas Avenue and asked to get off near Reliance street. “But before they alighted, one of them grabbed the necklace of a woman passenger,” he said.

The commotion caught the attention of the two policemen, who were seated in the middle of the bus. Tan shot one of the suspects and Cosme shot the other.

One of the suspects was immediately arrested while the other managed to cross EDSA, city police chief Senior Superintendent Florendo Quibuyen said.

Nabale was brought to the Cardinal Santos Medical Center for a gunshot wound in the chest while his companion was rushed to the Polymedic Hospital.
