MANILA, Philippines - Former Philippine Basketball Association import Jamelle Cornley was released from detention Monday night after posting P14,000 bail.
Night court Judge Manuel Sta. Cruz of the Quezon City Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 43 issued the temporary release order after receiving proof of payment of the bail money.
Earlier, inquest Prosecutor Leandro Raul Gonzales recommended the filing of alarm and scandal and direct assault upon an agent of person in authority charges against the former Rain or Shine import.
Gonzales recommended P12,000 bail on the direct assault charge, and another P2,000 on the alarm and scandal offense. The case is set to be raffled off tomorrow.
Cornley spent five days at the detention facility of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit of the Quezon City Police District after his arrest in March 27.
The cager was arrested after punching Police Officer 2 Anselmo Lazatin, who responded to a scene at a hotel along Timog Avenue where Cornley reportedly trashed computers and other equipment in a drunken fit.
The suspect allegedly created trouble after discovering that his money worth $1,500 was missing after checking in with three women.
