MANILA, Philippines - Two men who allegedly robbed a taxi driver were killed in a reported shootout with police officers in Barangay Greater Fairview, Quezon City before dawn yesterday.
The two slain suspects have yet to be identified, according to Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Senior Superintendent Richard Albano.
Police Officer 3 Erickson Isidro said a team from QCPD Station 5, led by SPO3 Wahab Magundacan, were on patrol when they received a radio call about a reported robbery involving a taxi with plate number UWA-146.
When they responded, they spotted the taxi occupied by the suspects at around 3 a.m. The patrol team reported that when they ordered the suspects to surrender, the suspects pointed their firearms in the direction of the lawmen, triggering a shootout, Isidro said.
Following the incident, taxi driver Pedro Mina identified the slain suspects as the persons who hijacked his taxi and robbed him of his day’s earnings.
Investigators recovered two .38 caliber handguns and bullets from the scene of the shootout, Isidro said.
