Teen nanny files abuse raps vs employer

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -  A 16-year-old nanny sought the help of the Public Attorney’s Office to file charges against her employer in Mandaluyong City, PAO chief Persida Rueda-Acosta said yesterday.

Acosta said the victim, who went to her office in Quezon City yesterday to undergo medical examination, has filed charges of trafficking in persons and physical injuries against her female employer.

Acosta said her office will provide legal assistance to the victim, similar what they did in the case of Bonita Baran, a former helper who accused her employers of physical abuse last year.

Based on documents provided by PAO, the charges against the teenager’s employer were filed on Jan. 10 at the Mandaluyong City prosecutor’s office.

According to the victim, she started working as a nanny in August 2012. She said her employer started to hurt her one month later.

In her sworn statement, the victim said her employer reportedly hit her on the head last Jan. 5 when the latter noticed a scratch on her son’s face.

She added that her employer allegedly kicked her, hit her with a chair and threatened to kill her.

The victim alleged that her employer has slapped her and hit her with a broom and a pan. She also said her employer has bitten her in the back.

Attached to the complaint was a medical certificate showing that the victim suffered various injuries “secondary to assault.”

The victim’s employer has yet to comment on the allegations of her former nanny.
