PDEA eyes using seized drugs for K-9 training
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency is considering using seized illegal drugs to train drug-sniffing dogs, PDEA director general Arturo Cacdac Jr. said yesterday.
Cacdac is pushing for the amendment of a Dangerous Drugs Board regulation concerning the custody and disposition of seized drugs, chemicals and equipment.
Under the proposed amendment, drug evidence no longer needed by the courts will be made available to K-9 schools as training aids for drug detection dogs, he said.
Cacdac said the amendment would empower private canine service providers and bolster the quality of drug-sniffing dogs.
