MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City local government has announced the partial closure of Commonwealth Avenue tomorrow from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. to give way to the 4th QC International Marathon.
Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) head Elmo San Diego said most parts of the avenue will remain passable as only four lanes of the avenue will be designated as running lanes.
The 42-kilometer race route will include Quezon Avenue, Commonwealth Avenue, University of Philippines’ academic oval in Diliman, and the La Mesa Dam Eco Park in Fairview. All race routes – including the 21, 10, and five-kilometer races – finish in front of the Quezon Memorial Circle (QMC) near Philcoa.
The DPOS said motorists coming from QMC to Fairview may take Mindanao Avenue via Quirino Highway or Sauyo Road as alternate routes. Vehicles going to QMC from Fairview, meanwhile, may take Mindanao Avenue via Dahlia, Chestnut and Sauyo Roads.
Organizers said they expect about 12,000 runners to participate in the marathon.
