MANILA, Philippines - A public safety officer was killed after a passenger bus slammed into him as he was driving his motorcycle along EDSA in Caloocan City shortly before midnight Monday.
Caloocan police Special Investigations chief and concurrent Traffic Enforcement Unit head Senior Inspector Gaylord Tamayo said Arturo Tambolero, 52, of the city government’s Reformed Department Public Safety and Traffic Management, died on the spot from severe head and body injuries.
Police officers arrested Commuter Bus Corp. driver Rolly Lozanes, 33, who is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.
Senior Police Officer 2 Vergilio Minina said Tambolero was making a turn toward Malvar street when the bus driven by Lozanes rear-ended his motorcycle. Lozanes said he was not able to immediately step on the brakes because he was surprised when the victim cut into his path. He asked Tambolero’s family for forgiveness and assured them the bus firm is ready to shoulder the burial and related expenses.
