MANILA, Philippines - The family of road rage victim Eldon Maguan urged the Department of Justice (DOJ) yesterday to put a tracking bracelet on convicted murderer Rolito Go since he will start a six-month treatment at a private hospital starting this month.
Grace Maguan, sister of Eldon, informed Justice Secretary Leila de Lima that a global positioning system or GPS bracelet should be placed on Go to prevent him from escaping or leaving his hospital bed. The Maguan family expressed fears that Go might run away with his jail guards on his way to or from the hospital.
Grace said Go has bolted jail several times since his conviction in 1994 and was monitored going in and out of his cell at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City despite his alleged illness. She told De Lima that putting a tracking device on Go is necessary because the private hospital is very near the convict’s house in Quezon City.
De Lima granted last week Go’s request to undergo chemotherapy at the Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center (CGHMC) based on the recommendation of the convict’s attending physician.
However, the Maguans questioned the “very long” treatment, which will be conducted for three to five days a month for four to six months. They said the CGHMC is more than 50 kilometers away from the NBP.
Grace also slammed the DOJ for allowing Go to seek treatment at the CGHMC, saying that Go should be brought to a government hospital.
