MANILA, Philippines - An Iranian businessman earlier indicted in the United States for allegedly trying to smuggle 20 tons of steel specially used for nuclear devices and uranium enrichment was arrested by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents last week.
Parviz Khaki, 43, was nabbed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 as he was about to fly to Qatar, according to a report by NBI foreign liaison chief Claro de Castro.
Khaki and his companions were arrested earlier in the US for submitting false documents in an attempt to smuggle 20 tons of specialized steel to Iran.
They were indicted by the District Court of Columbia for six counts of conspiracy, including interfering with and obstructing a lawful government function by deceit, craft, trickery and dishonest means.
