Ex-seaman kills cousin in Tondo
MANILA, Philippines - A former seaman attacked and killed his cousin in Tondo, Manila Saturday after hearing “someone whispering to him” that the victim was “a bad person.”
“I got irked so I stabbed him,” Elmer Guerrero, 56, told investigators when asked why he stabbed Rolando Guerrero, 57. The cousins live in the same house on Romualdez street.
Rolando had gone to a meat shop owned by Elmer’s sister, Jocelyn, to have his money changed into bills of smaller denomination when Elmer pounced on him at around 3 p.m.
The victim’s son, Joselito, rushed toward Elmer, but the suspect ran into the house and barricaded it. It took barangay chairwoman Cherry Rovilla to convince Elmer to surrender.
Rolando died of two stab wounds at the Tondo General Hospital at around 9 p.m.
Jocelyn told police her brother had once been confined at the National Center for Mental Health.
