'Carjack kings' ambushed after court hearing
MANILA, Philippines - A convoy carrying brothers and alleged carjack gang leaders Raymond and Roger Dominguez was reportedly ambushed yesterday afternoon in Quezon City.
Only Raymond, the younger of the two brothers, was injured when a bullet grazed his right ear, according to Superintendent Michael Macapagal, commander of the Quezon City Police District – Station 9. Roger was unhurt.
In an interview, Macapagal said the incident happened at past 3 p.m. along Xavierville Avenue. Earlier in the afternoon, the brothers attended a hearing on the car theft with homicide case they are facing before a Quezon City court in connection with the killing of car dealer Venson Evangelista.
The convoy was on its way to bring the brothers to their detention cell in Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.
The brothers were in a jail van that also carried five jail guards, including the driver. Behind it was another van that carried four more jail guards.
Macapagal said a gunman on a motorcycle suddenly went in between the two vehicles and fired shots at the one carrying the Dominguez brothers.
Macapagal said the gunman fled before the jail guards could react. The guards also failed to take note of the motorcycle or the description of the gunman, according to Macapagal.
The police official said Raymond was brought to East Avenue Medical Center for treatment before he was returned to his detention cell.
