MPD releases photo of Roxas Boulevard slay suspect

Gong Zhu Yan (in Mandarin) or King Zhu Yan (in Fookien) was identified by the victim’s friends from the video footage taken by a closed-circuit television camera of the Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas near the place where Zhao Chun Lan was killed.

MANILA, Philippines - The Manila Police District (MPD) released yesterday a photo of the prime suspect in the Jan. 14 murder of a Chinese woman who often jogged along Roxas Boulevard.

This developed as tracker teams of the MPD have fanned out in several places in Metro Manila and nearby provinces in the hunt against Gong Zhu Yan (in Mandarin) or King Zhu Yan (in Fookien), the reported boyfriend of victim Zhao Chun Lan, a native of Gan Su province in China.

Police investigators, meanwhile, continue to search for a Korean man, the registered owner of the car used in the killing, who they believe could give more information on Gong.

Zhao, a frequent early morning jogger along Roxas Boulevard, was often accompanied by Gong in a black Nissan Cefiro (XAY-741) registered to Ok Jung Kwang.

Police said that on Jan. 14, Gong allegedly hit Zhao with the car, then got out of the vehicle and stabbed her to death while she was sprawled on the pavement. Gong then returned to the Cefiro and ran over the unconscious Zhao, who died at the Ospital ng Maynila.

Police Officer 3 Charles Duran said there are hundreds of persons named Ok Jung Kwang in the records of the Bureau of Immigration. He also said Ok’s listed address in the Land Transportation Office was a Korean restaurant in Makati City.

The restaurant’s owner told police he does not know Ok but noted he may have used the restaurant’s address since the second floor of the building is a Korean chapel.
