Food poisoning downs 14 PUP students

MANILA, Philippines - At least 14 students from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in Sta. Mesa, Manila, were hospitalized due to food poisoning after eating lunch served by one of the concessionaires at the campus canteen Wednesday.

PUP president Dante Guevarra said the students were treated at the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center and sent home. “We’ll check the canteen and see the quality of the food served. We have concessionaires so we’ll see which one served the food,” Guevarra said.

Police said hospital doctors told investigators the students started vomiting minutes after eating fried rice sold at the canteen.
