MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) did not monitor any incident of flooding despite the heavy rain yesterday.
Emerson Carlos, MMDA’s assistant general manager for operations said the clearing of creeks and esteros under the agency’s “August Estero Blitz,” could have helped in controlling flooding in Metro Manila.
He said the MMDA’s Flood Control Information Center (FCIC) was also helpful in relaying information and coordinating anti-flood action in Metro Manila.
The P500,000 FCIC project, makes use of closed-circuit television cameras and flood monitoring devices installed at various key areas of the metropolis to relay real-time information on flooded streets to the MMDA’s headquarters in Makati City.
Carlos also cited the cleanup of Manila Bay, which resulted in the clearing of at least 84 truckloads of trash.
