US firm offers Pasig River cleanup

MANILA, Philippines - A California-based company specializing in the use of microorganisms or enzymes to remove pollutants has been talking with the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC) to hasten the cleanup of Pasig River.

BioCleaner Inc.’s Eros Kaw, however, declined to give further details about the ongoing “talks.”

He said BioCleaner has been advocating the practice of recycling and reusing waste water. He said the company also focuses on the bioremediation solutions for municipal, industrial, commercial and residential waste.

“There will be no wastage of waste water as it will be recycled to quality, safe drinking water,” he said.

Kaw said BioCleaner Inc. is one of 12 companies recognized by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with the microbial consortia Pristine Sea. It maintains one of the largest private microbial repositories at the Redox Culture Repository in the world. It has over 11,000 microbial isolates in the repository.

BioCleaner is recognized by the National Science Foundation in the US and the country’s Department of Science and Technology which issued it an Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) certificate, he added.
