Cop doused with chili-laced water during demolition

MANILA, Philippines - Residents of Kawayan in Barangay Marcelo Green, Parañaque City threw water mixed with crushed cayenne pepper in a police officer’s face in a bid to thwart a move to demolish their houses yesterday.

Police captain Francisco Villarama was rushed to a hospital. At least 11 houses were torn down after the demolition team successfully removed the barricades put up by the illegal settlers.

About 200 families are scheduled to be removed from the area in order to push through with the community mortgage program-Gawad Kalinga housing project.

Marcelo Green barangay chairman Christopher Aguilar said he will coordinate with the city government’s urban mission areas development office to get assistance for the 11 families.
