Too much drink leads man to kill live-in partner

MANILA, Philippines –  A 20-year-old man who said he had too much to drink stabbed dead his 22-year-old live-in partner when they had a quarrel in Tondo, Manila at past midnight yesterday.

Kenneth Karl Aspiras reportedly tried to escape but neighbors chased him and turned him over to the police, according to homicide section chief Inspector Armando Macaraeg.

The woman, Jet Lee Reyes, was declared dead on arrival at the Mary Johnston Hospital due to a stab wound in the right side of the body.

“I can’t remember anything. I was dead drunk and don’t know what happened,” Aspiras said in Filipino while his mother tended to abrasions he reportedly sustained while fending off his neighbors.

Investigation showed the couple, who lived with Reyes’ parents in Moriones, Tondo, had frequent spats but always made up.

Aspiras reportedly had a drink too many with his friends shortly before the stabbing. The girl’s mother told police she was awakened by the couple shouting at each other, but ignored it since she was accustomed to their frequent quarrels.

Minutes later, the mother overheard her daughter shouting that Aspiras had stabbed her. She rushed to the couple’s room, and saw Aspiras with blood on his hands and her daughter had sustained a stab wound.

Police recovered a kitchen knife that had broken in two in the couple’s room. Homicide charges are being prepared against Aspiras.
