NCRPO coddling cop convicted of frustrated murder?

MANILA, Philippines –  A policeman convicted of shooting a colleague is reportedly still in the custody of a unit of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) despite a commitment order from the court for his transfer to the National Bilibid Prisons (NBP) in Muntinlupa.

Police Officer 2 Luisito Dimaano, who was then detailed at the NCRPO’s anti-carnapping unit, was ordered arrested by then NCRPO chief Director Roberto Rosales after he received the decision of Regional Trial Court Branch 50 Judge William Simon Peralta convicting Dimaano of frustrated murder and sentencing him to eight years’ imprisonment. No bail was granted in the decision. Dimaano was remanded to the Regional Police Intelligence and Operations Unit (RPIOU) while waiting for the commitment order from the court for his transfer.

Dimaano was convicted for shooting Police Officer 3 Jonathan Ruiz of the Manila Police District in Tondo, Manila on June 8, 2001.

According to Ruiz, he was told by the court that a commitment order for Dimaano’s incarceration at the NBP was mailed to the NCRPO on Sept. 27.

“I have recently seen Dimaano still in the custody of the RPIOU. Are the officials there coddling the convicted cop and defying the court order?” Ruiz asked.

Ruiz is appealing to NCRPO director Chief Superintendent Nicanor Bartolome to personally look into his complaint so he and his family may finally get justice.
