MANILA, Philippines - A former Army man was shot dead yesterday morning by an alleged member of gang reportedly terrorizing a community in Binondo, Manila.
Ruben Anosa, 45, died in an alley leading to his house at Gate 58 Area H, Parola Compound from two gunshot wounds in the head, according to Senior Police Officer 3 Richard Lumbad.
Initial investigation showed Anosa was heard by his neighbors having a heated argument with a certain “JP” and an unidentified man, two reported members of the “Parola Most Wanted (PMW)” gang.
Moments later, gunshots were heard. When residents rushed to the scene, they saw the wounded victim lying on the pavement, gasping for breath. Residents called police for assistance.
Lumbad said the victim died on the spot. The victim’s brother, Rolando, told police the identity of his brother’s attacker but could not say the motive for the slaying. Rolando said his brother was a former member of the Philippine Army.
Residents said members of the PMW gang had been terrorizing those who try to defy their illegal activities such as drug pushing and illegal water and power connections. The gang is composed of armed hoodlums and ex-convicts, they said.
Homicide section chief Inspector Armando Macaraeg ordered a manhunt for Anosa’s killers.
