MANILA, Philippines - The father of singer Sarah Geronimo reported to the police an attempt to kidnap him past noon yesterday in the compound of ABS-CBN in Quezon City.
Delfin Geronimo, 55, managed to escape from his alleged attacker and seek help from the security guards, said PO3 Ranilo Mendoza, case investigator of the Quezon City Police District-Station 10.
Ranilo identified the suspect as Paulino Mercado, 43, of Imus, Cavite, who was apprehended by the security guards.
Mercado is facing charges of attempted kidnapping. He, however, did not say why he attacked Geronimo, Ranilo said.
Even Geronimo, according to Ranilo, could not think of anyone who might be behind the kidnapping attempt.
The incident happened at around 12:50 p.m. at the basement of the ELG building at the ABS-CBN compound. He was earlier with his daughter during the variety show “ASAP.”
Geronimo’s attention was called as Mercado was at the basement looking for him supposedly to give him a gift from a cellular phone company.
But as Geronimo met Mercado, the latter attacked him with a stun gun. However, Geronimo managed to run away and seek the guards’ help.
