6 men kill nursing student in Quezon City

MANILA, Philippines - Police have launched a manhunt for six men who allegedly beat up and shot a nursing student in Quezon City Saturday night, reportedly because they did not like the way he looked at them.

Mar Jove Beltran, 24, of Maginhawa street in Teachers Village, died of gunshot wounds.

Police have identified the suspects as Roberto Santos alias Obet, the gunman, and his companions Botchoc, Fetus, a Peke, Cloyd, and Biyong. All six fled the crime scene in a tricycle marked DAMAPATODA. The motorcycle has yet to be registered.

Chief Inspector Ben Elenzano, Homicide Division chief of the Quezon City Police District – Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (QCPD-CIDU) said the incident happened at around 11 p.m. along Wilson street in San Francisco del Monte.

The victim and his friends were having a drinking spree in the area when Santos allegedly confronted him, asking why he was staring at them.

The suspects beat up Beltran, then Santos pulled out a .9mm handgun and shot the victim repeatedly.

Elenzano said the victim was rushed to the St. Agnes Hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.

Responding policemen found at least four shells at the crime scene.

Elenzano said the suspects apparently killed the nursing student just because they did not like the way he was looking at them. – Michael Punongbayan
