MANILA, Philippines - A fully developed fetus, estimated to be seven to eight months old, was found in the restroom of a university in Sta. Mesa, Manila yesterday morning.
The male fetus was discovered by Miraluna Daguman, a janitress, while cleaning the comfort room at the third floor of Arellano University along Legarda street.
Daguman told PO3 Gerry Amores that she noticed a pink shopping bag left inside one of the cubicles. The bag yielded a fetus wrapped in disposable diaper. She immediately reported her findings to the school administrator, who called in the police.
Amores said the fetus could have been aborted by the unidentified mother right in the comfort room, as evidenced by the fresh blood on the diaper. However, the guard on duty at the school entrance did not notice anything unusual among the students and teachers that morning.
Police said they will coordinate with school authorities to find out the identity of the fetus’ mother. – Nestor Etolle
