MANILA, Philippines - The Manila Police District (MPD) arrested 158 fugitives, including the city’s 10 most wanted suspects, from June to September, an official said yesterday.
The fugitives are covered by arrest warrants for offenses such as estafa, perjury, violation of the bouncing check law, parricide, illegal recruitment, murder and robbery, according to warrant and subpoena section head Chief Inspector Mario Magno. Seven of the 10 most wanted are facing murder and rape charges, while another had escaped detention while serving rape and illegal drug offenses, Magno added.
Since his appointment as warrant section chief on June 26, Magno had acted on and served 1,173 arrest warrants that led to the apprehension of 158 criminals.
Metro police chief Director Roberto Rosales has tasked his five police district commanders to intensify the serving of warrants in an effort to flush out criminals who may become active again with the coming of the Christmas season. – Nestor Etolle
