Drunk Army man stabbed, shot

MANILA, Philippines - A member of the Philippine Army died after he was stabbed and shot when he barged into the house of a woman he was reportedly courting at Barangay Western Bicutan, Taguig City Monday night.

Chief Inspector Eufronio Obong Jr., chief of the city police investigation and detective management section, identified the victim as Staff Sergeant Tyron Montes, a resident of the same barangay.

The police report said that at about 9 p.m., Montes barged into the house located along Llanera street, looking for the sister of Brizildo Pallega.

Police said when Montes saw Pallega, he poked a gun at him. Police said Pallega shoved Montes, who walked away but returned minutes later, shooting Pallega.

Montes missed, and Pallega stabbed Montes. Pallega managed to wrest the gun away from the soldier and shot Montes at the back thrice. Pallega fled, leaving the knife still embedded in the victim’s body.

Senior Superintendent Camilo Cascolan, Taguig police chief, said a manhunt has already been launched against the suspect.       – Rhodina Villanueva
