MANILA, Philippines - Two Parañaque congressmen urged the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) yesterday to reduce by at least half the current South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) toll rates while the second phase of the Skyway project is under construction.
Reps. Eduardo Zialcita and Roilo Golez called on TRB executive director Manuel Imperial to also allow the temporary use of the existing Skyway at the same toll rate as the SLEX.
Zialcita said his office has received numerous complaints from motorists regarding the longer travel time along SLEX caused by the construction of the Skyway extension from Bicutan to Alabang.
“The construction is slated to continue in the next couple of years… motorists will be forced to carry this burden over a similar period,” Zialcita said.
He said SLEX users should be given concessions because they are not getting the convenience, savings in travel time and fuel the SLEX operator is supposed to provide. – Delon Porcalla
