MANILA, Philippines - A Korean businessman was arrested by the police for allegedly beating his Filipina companion inside a restaurant past midnight yesterday in Ermita, Manila.
Aside from charges of physical injury, Kyong Kyu Oh, 44, of Pasay City, is also facing charges of violation of City Ordinance 844 for breach of peace and resisting arrest.
According to Chief Inspector Froilan Uy, chief of the Manila Police District’s General Assignment Section which investigates cases involving foreigners, police responded to a call for assistance from a security guard of Bukyong Restaurant along Malvar street in Ermita regarding the Korean who was creating trouble inside.
Responding policemen said Jenelyn Naagas, 18, of Angeles City, Pampanga, complained that Oh had punched her several times in the face and body. She said she was escorting the Korean businessman who had taken one drink too many. Oh reportedly also cursed and shouted invectives at the policemen before he was finally subdued. He was brought to the Ospital ng Maynila where he was tested positive for alcoholic breath. His Filipina companion also underwent medical examination for bruises and contusions she sustained as a result of the beating. – Nestor Etolle
