Girl killed as wall collapses

MANILA, Philippines – A five-year-old girl was found dead when a concrete wall collapsed on her family’s shanty in Barangay Marcelo Green, Parañaque City due to heavy rainfall Friday night.

Police Officer 2 Mac Arthur Encallado said Rosemarie Saligumba was sleeping with her mother, Mary Anne, and three brothers when the wall collapsed at the height of a downpour at around 10 p.m.

Rosemarie’s mother and three brothers were able to get out of the house, but the victim was found floating in floodwater, already dead. Police said she was apparently hit by falling cement blocks and wooden furniture.

Encallado said non-stop rains and strong winds could have caused the concrete wall to collapse. – Rhodina Villanueva
