At least 10 people were hurt Thursday when a speeding passenger jeepney lost its brakes and rammed into a cement wall in Marikina City.
Responding policemen arrested the jeepney driver, Jimmy Daniel, 32, and charged him with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries.
Marikina City police chief Superintendent Sotero Ramos Jr. said Ramon Dispojo, 61; Benjamin Balatbat, 76; Nelson Manolo, 31; Fredalyn Osiana, 22; Margie Cayana, 30; Veronica Arroyo, 22; Novi Villanueva, 34; Renato Bunuan, 28, and Joel Molata were sent home after being treated for head and body injuries at the A. Rodriguez Medical Center.
Ramos said the victims were passengers of the jeepney (TXX-282) driven by Daniel, who was plying a Montalban-Cubao route when the vehicle lost its brakes along E. Mendoza street.
“The passengers were warning the driver that they were travelling too fast but Daniel ignored them until the accident happened,” Ramos said.
Unable to control the vehicle, Daniel rammed it into a cement wall of the property owned by Sergio Ortiz.
Bystanders rushed the victims to the hospital. Nobody was hurt in Ortiz house though the wall sustained major damage.
