Rape suspect nabbed after 2 years in hiding

Operatives of the District Police Intelligence Unit in Caloocan yesterday arrested a man tagged for the brutal rape of a 14-year-old boy in Malabon some two years ago.

PO2 Enrique Pangan, officer-on-case, identified the suspect as Orlando “Nacnoy” Caleste ,20, single, helper and a resident of Phase 2, Paradise Village, Tonsuya, Malabon. Pangan said Caleste was arrested by NPDO-DPIU elements around 11:35 a.m. Monday following a tip from an informant.

He said the suspect became the object of a police manhunt after the latter beat-up a 14-year -old boy before sodomizing the victim in April 2006.

Caleste fled to Samar after learning the victim’s parents lodged a complaint against him before the police. The suspect is now being held at the NPDO-DPIU detention cell while waiting for appropriate charges to be filed.
