Northern Police District intelligence agents arrested a murder suspect during an operation in Malabon City yesterday morning.
Superintendent Reynaldo Orante, NPD-District Police Intelligence Unit chief, identified the suspect as Romulo Montances, 40, a resident of Barangay Catmon, also in Malabon.
Montances has a warrant of arrest for murder issued by Judge Leonardo Leonida of the Malabon City Regional Trial Court Branch 74.
“He is one of the most wanted persons of the Malabon City police,” NPD-DPIU investigator Police Officer 2 Enrique Pangan said. Pangan said that at around 8:15 a.m., they received information that the suspect was seen at a funeral wake on Gov. Pascual Avenue in Barangay Catmon.
A three-man team, composed of PO3 Allan Llantino, PO2 Erwin Sese and PO1 Jose Marcelo Deuda, was dispatched to the area resulting in Montances arrest.
“I don’t know why I have a warrant of arrest for murder wherein I wasn’t involved in any trouble in our area,” Montances told The STAR when asked about the charges. But Montances admitted of being imprisoned for more than a month at the Malabon City police detention cell for illegal possession of a bladed weapon in December last year.
“But the case was a set up, the knife the police got from me was not mine,” he said.
The NPD-DPIU is set to turn over today the suspect to the Malabon City authorities.
