QC cops target sex workers who rob clients

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) is setting its sights on a string of establishments in Kamuning, Quezon City frequented by female sex workers who rob their clients once inside a motel.

Superintendent Aspirinio Cabula, commander of QCPD-Station 10, said these are the rundown bars, entertainment spots and eateries near the intersection of E. Rodriguez Avenue and EDSA.

Cabula said that for the past three nights, his men have been apprehending “pick-up girls” in these establishments. Last Saturday night, 17 women were brought to the station for questioning and were subsequently released, he said.

He said some of the women were listed in the police blotter for past robbery cases in the area. However, most of these cases were dismissed after the complainants failed to attend court hearings.

At least three cases of this type of robbery occur every month in the area, Cabula told The STAR in an interview.

Cabula said these sex workers charge lower rates – in most cases as low as P150 – attracting men who pass by the establishments that the women frequent.

The customers usually include passengers waiting for a ride at nearby bus stations, he said.

Cabula said most of the robbery cases reportedly involved motel staff, particularly “room boys.”

He said that once inside the motel room, a sex worker will rob the client herself or have an armed man  barge into the room. In some cases, the motel staff were the ones who rob the client. – Reinir Padua
