A fire broke out at the compound of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources on Visayas Avenue, Quezon City yesterday morning, destroying books and other documents stored there.
The fire started at the conference room of the Research and Development Division of the DENR’s Environmental Management Bureau at 7:12 a.m.
Fire Chief Inspector Samuel Tadeo, commander of the Quezon City Fire District-Station 1, said the blaze was put out at 7:30 a.m. He placed the damage to the single-story structure at around P10,000.
DENR-EMB director Julian Amador said among those damaged were records and other reference books stored in the conference room.
Fire investigators are still determining the cause of the blaze but according to Amador, it could be due to faulty electrical wiring.
Amador said the conference room was locked when the fire broke out. – Reinir Padua
