Binay lauds 2 nursing exam topnotchers

Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay lauded two graduates of the University of Makati (UMAK) College of Nursing yesterday for being among the top five passers of the December 2007 nursing licensure examination.

He congratulated Denise Claudia Mangiliman, who placed fourth with 86.40 percent rating, and Betty Chua Chung, fifth place, with 86.20 percent rating.

Both are graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)-2nd Courser program Batch 2007 of the city-run UMAK.

Binay also congratulated 67 other UMAK nursing graduates who passed the test, noting that the school’s College of Nursing registered a 90 percent passing average rate since 69 of its 77 graduates who took the exam passed.

“In barely five years, the UMAK College of Nursing has been able to produce a high number of board passers, and now it can even boast of producing board topnotchers,” he said.

University president Tomas Lopez attributed the feat to the fact that nursing professionals with over 20 years of work experience in local and foreign hospitals are managing the UMAK’s BSN programs.

He said the BSN-2nd Courser, which is designed for graduates of other course who intend to pursue a career in nursing, is one of the two course offerings of the UMAK, along with its four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing course for regular students.

He added that students can finish the course in two to three years depending on the number of major subjects that can be credited to them.
