Caloocan holds mass wedding

Caloocan City Mayor Enrico “Recom” Echiverri announced that the number of participants in yesterday’s mass wedding in the Kasalang Bayan held at Glorietta in Tala, Caloocan has broken previous records set in the country.

Echiverri, who stood both as officiating officer and principal sponsor of the couples, said some 1,700 pairs simultaneously were married as part of the celebrations on the 46th cityhood anniversary of Caloocan.

The mass wedding was part of  the Echiverri administration’s campaign to strengthen the family as the basic building block of a highly developed city.

Echiverri commended the Civil Registry Department headed by Luchi Flores for successfully staging the event and giving of Caloocan residents the opportunity to formally legalize their union through him.

Meanwhile, Echiverri urged everyone to witness the coronation night of the Binibining Caloocan 2008 tonight at the Bonifacio Monument Circle.

Aside from the 20 finalists from the different barangays in the city, the occasion will also be graced by showbiz celebrities and other personalities.  The coronation night is set to start around 6 pm.

Echiverri advised motorists that some portions of EDSA in Caloocan will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic starting 3 p.m. today.

Motorists coming from Quezon City going to Manila must turn left at Biglang-Awa Street. Vehicles going to Malabon City from Manila must turn left at 10th Avenue, right at Heroes del ‘96 and left towards Sangandaan.    – Jerry Botial
