Southern Police District (SPD) chief Director Luizo Ticman is encouraging residents in southern Metro Manila to take pictures or videos of those they would see firing guns on New Year’s Eve.
Ticman said people can use their cell phones in taking pictures or recording through video those who will instigate violence during the New Year’s Eve celebration.
“This is one effective way for the public to help the police force in keeping an eye and eventually punishing those who will still play with their guns while welcoming the New Year. We will use the pictures and video footage as evidence against these violent individuals,” he said.
Ticman directed all the chiefs of police in southern Metro Manila to continue with the patrolling activities in their respective areas and make sure that mobile patrol teams are available to respond to those in need of police assistance.
SPD policemen have also started to seal their guns with masking tape. This measure would reportedly make it possible to check on who fired their guns on New Year’s Eve. – Rhodina Villanueva
