The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has ordered stricter identification policies for transport service drivers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
The new rules now require them to conspicuously wear their identification cards all the time and wear uniforms that have their names printed on the back.
MIAA General Manager Alfonso Cusi said the new policies will greatly improve transport services at the NAIA because passengers can easily identify the drivers.
“This will help ensure that drivers will treat their passengers with respect and courtesy and provide excellent service at all times since their identity can easily be known in case of complaints or suggestions,” he said.
Cusi said stricter identification rules would also prevent, if not minimize, incidents of airline passengers being held up, overcharged or having their baggage stolen by or with the connivance of drivers.
The MIAA has been initiating a host of service enhancements in various areas of airport operations.
MIAA assistant general manager for airport development and corporate affairs Tirso Serrano said “easy identification will inspire them to serve with a smile and extend superb service to prevent complaints and encourage possible commendation.”
Serrano said the new rules were initially implemented for accredited airport taxis and rent-a-car transport services last week and will also be applied to the drivers of hotels and tours sometime in August.
Records show that around 2,000 drivers from various accredited transport service companies operate at the NAIA. – Michael Punongbayan
