Belmonte leads book launch

-
Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. will lead city officials tomorrow at the ceremonial launch of the "QC Council History and Legacy," a 400-page coffee-table book showcasing the colorful history of the 67-year-old city’s legislative branch.

Vice President Noli de Castro will be the guest of honor at the book launch.

Former Quezon City officials who helped shape the city council from its inception in 1939 will also attend the launch at the QC Performing Arts Theater (formerly the Amoranto multi-purpose hall) along Roces Avenue.

Councilor Elizabeth Delarmente, who authored the council resolution calling for the publication of the book, said "it is about time that the QC council’s major contribution in propelling the city to growth and progress be given importance."

The book features a long list of city councilors who had served on the council, their achievements, civic duties and projects, as well as photographs of landmark ordinances that the council passed since the birth of Quezon City on Oct. 12, 1939.

Since then, a total of 252 councilors served on the Quezon City council.

"QC Council History and Legacy" also containst articles featuring the city’s distinguished line of mayors and vice mayors, who also served as the council’s presiding officers.

The book also contains photo documentation of Quezon City’s history, from its creation by President Manuel Quezon in 1939 to its present status as the Philippines’ richest city. – Perseus Echeminada
