US psychologist to hold seminar for NPD cops

A California-based law enforcement psychologist is set to conduct counseling and peer support response team training for the officers and men of the Northern Police District (NPD) for free.

Dr. Frank Scalercio Jr., also a diplomat from the American Board of Law Enforcement Experts and a member of the American Psychological Association, said he wants to share his expertise and experience to Philippine National Police (PNP) officers and personnel.

"As a law enforcer for the past 45 years I very well understand the needs of my fellow law enforcers. So I wanted to help them," Scalercio told The STAR. "It would be free for I just wanted to help my peers."

Scalercio is a law enforcement psychologist for the Solano County Sheriff Department.

Superintendent Reynaldo Orante, chief of the Northern Police District-District Police Intelligence Unit, said law enforcers also need to be mentally healthy. "As police officers, we report to work with a firearm packed to our waists. So it would only be necessary that a cop that carries a gun must be pyschologically healthy." – Pete Laude
