Off-duty cop nabbed for election gun ban violation

An off-duty police officer driving a car with no license plates was arrested at a checkpoint and found himself in deeper trouble after a gun and several rounds of ammunition were also found in his possession the other day in Valenzuela City.

Collared for violating the election gun ban was Police Officer 3 Wilson Caldeo, of the Quezon City Police District Mobile Force (DMF).

Around 1:30 a.m., Police Officer 3 Alexander Buan and Police Officer 3 Luisito Ananias were on patrol when they noticed that Caldeo’s car had no license plates.

The officers flagged him down to question him. Caldeo, who was in civilian clothes, introduced himself as a police officer. Buan and Ananias, however, saw what appeared to be a gun tucked in his waist and frisked him.

The lawmen found a 9-mm Beretta on his right side and a loaded magazine for the same gun with 15 live bullets. Caldeo also had two other magazines for caliber .45 pistols.

Caldeo could not present pertinent documents, including a Comelec exemption to the gun ban, and was arrested.
