Marchers support Subic rape victim

Ten days before a Makati City judge renders a decision on the controversial Subic rape case, politicians and Church people yesterday joined a colorful march from Quirino Avenue to Rajah Soliman Park in Malate, Manila to draw support for the victim Nicole.

The Walk for Nicole, Walk for Justice group said their activity was intended to remind the public and ask for their support since Judge Benjamin Pozon, of Makati City Regional Trial Court is expected to issue a decision on the rape case on Nov. 27.

To draw the attention of the early morning crowd along Roxas Boulevard, the supporters of Nicole wore white t shirts and carried a colorful array of flaglets, paper doves, sporting giant buttons, scarves, sweatbands, earrings and even brought their dog mascot who was dressed with the slogan "Justice for Nicole".

The march included musicians who played drums, maracas and castanets.

It can be recalled that on Nov. 1, 2005, the then 22-year-old Nicole was allegedly raped by four United States Marines Lance Corporals Daniel Smith, Keith Silkwood, Dominic Duplantis, and Staff Sergeant Chad Carpentier. - Evelyn Macairan
