October 2, 2006 | 12:00am
Caloocan City Mayor Enrico Echiverri announced the city government will be celebrating "Elderly Week 2006" starting today, Oct. 2.
Echiverri said activities would be held during the flag-raising ceremony in front of the Caloocan City Hall along A. Mabini street at 8 a.m.
He said the city government of Caloocan, through its Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), has initiated the activity to honor the senior citizens of the city, and to cite their valuable contribution in the development of Caloocan.
During the Elderly Week 2006, there will be a ceremonial turnover of functions, wherein senior citizens will assume the duties of local officials and city government department heads for one week.
The mayor explained that this celebration is very similar to that of the celebration of the Boys and Girls Week, however, with some innovations and modifications.
"It is also very important to honor the senior citizens of the city as they have also been very instrumental in the development and progress of what we now see as a progressive and reformed Caloocan," Echiverri said.
He said OSCA s will continue to implement programs that will be very beneficial to the older generation.
The City Council is set to pass an urgent resolution that would encourage various sectors to demonstrate the tradition of respect for senior citizens of Caloocan.
