Police said huge debts may have been the motive behind the killing of Edivita Arguelles, 42, owner of a sari-sari store on Interior street, Dr. Sixto Avenue in Barangay Maybunga.
PO2 Norman Barcellano said the children of Arguelles admitted that their mother owed certain people a huge amount of money.
"Inaalam pa natin kung ang utang nga ang motibo sa pagpatay sa kanya," Barcellano said.
Arguelles had just emerged from her house and store at 8 a.m. when the gunman, on board a motorcycle, drove toward her.
When the gunman was a few meters away, he pulled out a handgun and opened fire at the businesswoman.
Witnesses said the gunman fled after he was sure Arguelles was dead.
Senior Superintendent Francisco Uyami Jr., Pasig City police chief, ordered the setting up of a checkpoint, but failed to get him.
Responding policemen failed to recover any spent shell at the crime scene.
Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) officers are currently conducting an examination of the body. Non Alquitran
