Driver killed as van falls from bridge

A 50-year-old company driver died while his companion was injured when their vehicle fell off a bridge in Pasig City last Wednesday.

Reynaldo Castillo, company driver of the Peace Keeper Security Agency and resident of Boni Avenue in Mandaluyong City, sustained head injuries and was declared dead on arrival at the Pasig City General Hospital.

Security guard Brando Dizon, 32, sustained injuries in the head and body and is now in critical condition at the Ospital ng Makati.

Police investigator SPO3 Robert Dumayas said Castillo and Dizon were on their way home from Marikina City on board a white Mitsubishi L-200 van with plate number URZ 298 when the accident took place.

Upon reaching the floodway bridge in Barangay Manggahan at 11 p.m., Castillo lost control of the vehicle and slammed into the railing of the bridge before falling into the river.

Castillo’s head hit the steering wheel upon impact. Dizon, who was seated beside the driver, was thrown from his seat.

Responding barangay watchmen rushed Castillo and Dizon to the hospital.

Dumayas said his initial investigation showed Castillo and Dizon were under the influence of liquor. – Non Alquitran
