Caloocan seeks completion of water project

Caloocan City Mayor Enrico "Recom" Echiverri has ordered the immediate completion by end of the year, if possible, the city’s water project in Barangay Bagong Barrio, an area that has had water supply woes in the last 30 years.

This developed even as Echiverri followed up on a vow of local water concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. (MWSI) to expedite the installation of booster pipes in the area.

The request was approved by MWSI’s Engineer Jaime Bartolome in a recent dialogue with the residents of Bagong Barrio, particularly, barangays 149, 150 and 152, all suffering from chronic lack of water.

The mayor said that if the installation does not materialize in the next six months, he will order city engineer Rolando Eduria to construct to motorized deep wells and overhead tanks in the area.

"Sa nakalipas na 30 taon, walang tubig na tumutulo sa mga gripo sa Bagong Barrio. Sa susunod na taon matatapos na ang water rationing," Echiverri said.

The mayor said the rationing was only temporary and a regular supply will be assured only after the promised booster pumps shall have been installed. – Jerry Botial
