QC seizes more defective scales

The Quezon City Treasurer’s Office has confiscated 300 more defective weighing scales in a series of operations at various public markets in the city as part of the city government’s crackdown on unscrupulous vendors.

City treasurer Dr. Victor Endriga said most of the defective scales were seized from stalls at Nepa Q-mart, where a task force on weight and scales have been conducting operations in the last few days.

"On orders of Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr., we are intensifying our campaign against erring vendors," Endriga said.

He urged vendors to have their scales registered and calibrated to avoid problems in the future.

Apart from Nepa Q-mart, the task force also inspected stalls at the Muñoz and Balintawak markets.

Endriga has also ordered the task force to regularly inspect gasoline stations to ensure that their pumps are calibrated.

He said gasoline stations operating in the city are required to calibrate pumps every three months. – Perseus Echeminada
