Belmonte approves educational assistance to City Hall employees

It will be an early Christmas for the more than 8,000 Quezon City Hall employees.

Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. has approved an ordinance, which provides P1,000 in education assistance to all city government employees who have rendered at least four months of public service.

In a circular issued early this month, the mayor said payment of the educational benefits should be made not earlier than Oct. 12 and not later than Oct. 31.

The newly approved ordinance, principally authored by Councilor Allan Francisco, provides for the appropriation of P15 million as education assistance to regular contractual and consultants of the city government.

The move is in accordance with an executive order issued by President Arroyo last June 7.

The measure describes the assistance to government personnel as a form of recognition "for their contributions in providing quality public service despite the national government’s austerity measure."

The amount allows them to them cope with the rising cost of education. Perseus Echeminada
