Police release photo of Dy slay suspect

- Non Alquitran -
The Southern Police District (SPD) released yesterday the photograph of the main suspect in the slaying of a prominent Chinese businessman’s son in Muntinlupa City last Aug. 14.

SPD director Chief Superintendent Wilfredo Garcia admitted they have not yet identified the suspect, but a witness said the man in the photo was the one who chased and stabbed Oliver Ong Dy with a screwdriver following a heated argument at Camella 2E subdivision in Barangay Putatan .

Garcia appealed to the public to help identify the suspect by contacting Task Force Oliver Ong Dy, headed by Muntinlupa City police chief Senior Superintendent Roberto Rongavilla.

"We ask the public to provide to us information on his whereabouts," Garcia said.

The SPD chief said they can forward information through 0917-5485819.

Garcia said the photos were acquired after more than one week of sleuthing by Rongavilla and members of the task force.

He said that at 4:18 a.m. last Aug. 14, Dy left his condo unit in Makati City at 4:18 a.m.

The victim’s mobile phone showed that before leaving, he called up a certain JP Pierre, a friend in Muntinlupa City.

At 5:30 a.m., Dy was found dead in the subdivision. He sustained 35 stab wounds. The murder weapon was found at the crime scene.

According to Garcia, Rongavilla was able to trace a witness who saw the suspect chasing and stabbing Dy near the latter’s vehicle.

Dy was shouting for help, said the witness, who quickly left the scene to contact the police.

When police arrived, the suspect was gone along with the victim’s red Chevrolet sedan with license plate XLW 583. The vehicle was registered to Dy’s mother.

Garcia said Dy’s close friends provided the task force with photos of possible suspects. The witness positively identified one as Dy’s attacker.

Superintendent Jose Gentiles, SPD intelligence chief, said the man in the photo also matched the sketch prepared by a police artist .

At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing a red T-shirt and maong pants. He was described as 30-35 years-old, brown skinned and 5’7" to 5’8" in height.
