Doble mistress disowns complaint vs opposition

The live-in partner of alleged military wiretapper T/Sgt. Vidal Doble has clarified that she was not a complainant in a suit filed against members of the opposition.

In a two-page affidavit submitted to prosecutors, Marietta Santos made the clarification after receiving a subpoena for her to appear as co-complainant of Doble in yesterday’s preliminary investigation on the serious illegal detention complaint by the latter, his wife Arlene and the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group against former National Bureau of Investigation deputy director Samuel Ong, Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay and actor Rez Cortez.

"I categorically state that I am not a complainant in the above-titled matter. I did not and am not filing any complaint against any of the above-named respondents, or any other person, for events which transpired on the long weekend of 10-13 June 2005," Santos said.

She said that there was no instance that she and Doble "were ever detained or restrained of our liberty, by any of the above-named respondents."

At the San Carlos Seminary in Makati last June 11, Ong presented Doble as the military man who allegedly wiretapped President Arroyo’s conversation with a poll official.

The PNP-CIDG included Binay in the complaint sheet, claiming he was one of the people who kept Doble inside the seminary against his will. Ong and Cortez were also allegedly "material" for Doble’s illegal stay at the San Carlos seminary.

Doble’s wife, Arlene, sought the help of the police after receiving text messages from Doble that he was being kept inside the seminary against his will.

Binay vehemently denied detaining the military man, adding that the PNP may yet end up in another embarrassing situation by relying on Doble’s statement.

"I don’t know how you can detain someone who appears to have gone to the seminary on his own accord" Binay said.
