1 dead, 1 hurt in parking dispute

A row over parking led to the stabbing to death of one and injuries to another late Sunday afternoon in Caloocan, police reported yesterday.

Carlos Bardaja, 45, of Libis Bukid, Baesa, Caloocan City sustained a single stab wound in the back that pierced his heart while his kumpadre Antonio Garduce, 42, of the same neighborhood, was confined at the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center for head and body injuries caused by an iron pipe.

Suspect Zaldy Remandaban, 45, married, tricycle driver, also a neighbor of the victims, voluntarily surrendered to Barangay Kagaward Victor Ando. Remandaban’s son, Jojie, 18, is now being hunted by the police for hitting Garduce with an iron pipe.

The fight erupted at around 5:30 p.m. when Garduce allegedly scolded the young Remandaban for parking his motorcycle near where Garduce’s group was allegedly having a drinking session. A heated argument soon ensued between Garduce and the young man, who finding himself out-talked, went home and complained to his father Zaldy.

Zaldy then, accompanied by Jojie, went out to confront Garduce, who beat him to the draw and broke an empty gin bottle on his head. Zaldy allegedly left in a huff but returned with a knife in his hand.

As Zaldy approached Garduce’s group, Bardaja, attempting to pacify the suspect, allegedly met the enraged Zaldy ,who stabbed him for interfering.

The young Remandaban caught up with Garduce and hit the latter in the head and body with the pipe before fleeing the scene.
