MMDA readies NAIA Road for the rainy days

After several months of working on improving drainage systems in the area, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said yesteday it expects no flood problems along the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Road in Parañaque City this coming rainy season.

This is because secondary lines were constructed while existing lines were cleaned up and cleared of garbage which were found to be blocking rainwater.

"We worked at the NAIA Road for several months. We still have our flood control personnel in the area doing some more cleaning," MMDA Deputy chairman Cesar Lacuna said.

He explained that the NAIA Road, particularly the 500-meter stretch fronting the Duty Free Shopping Center, has always been a problem area in the past.

"With the improvements, we expect less flooding this coming rainy season," said Lacuna, who is in charge of the flood control program of the MMDA.

He said flood control operations, including repair, cleaning and road reconstruction are done during the summer months. — Michael Punongbayan
